Achievement Motivation

The Rationale

Based on David McClelland’s Achievement motivation concept this behavioural training workshop helps participants to assess (and develop) their achievement motivation in contrast to ‘power motivation’ (reward, promotions etc.) and affiliation motivation (recognition).

This training for employees could make a significant difference if you would like to address any of the following:

  • Developing an entrepreneurial mindset. While becoming an entrepreneur might be a career choice, demonstrating entrepreneurship is an attitude that can be assessed and developed. In fact, now there is a       new word for it ‘Intrapreneurship’.
  • Not settling for mere success… Aiming for excellence! We convert ‘excellence’, the English word into behaviours that can be demonstrated, measured, modified and learnt… Excellence in thought, mindset and in execution.

The employee development training also derives a framework of excellence which is a ready reckoner for any projects to be targeted. It cajoles the participants to challenge their ‘comfort zone’ and strive for excellence in each field of their lives.

‘Becoming an entrepreneur may be a career choice; demonstrating entrepreneurship is an attitude.’ The workshop also focuses on execution excellence – ‘vision without action is merely a dream.’ The participants learn how to drive excellence in execution by self and team members rather than settling for mere success.  In school, we did not settle for mere success that is just the passing marks than isn’t just ‘met standards/ expectations’ for our KRAs equivalent to that?

This training for employees addresses the Five Main Entrepreneurial Competencies

  • Initiative
  • Drive for Results
  • Self Confidence
  • Ownership and Accountability
  • Ability to Create Powerful and Inspiring Vision for Self and Others

The Five Characteristic Behaviours of Achievement Motivated People who:

  • Take calculated risk/ moderate risk
  • Focus primarily on achievement and believe that power and affiliation are by-products of achievement
  • Learn from feedback – success and failure, self and others
  • Do not operate from their comfort zone
  • Focus on their circle of control

The Methodology

This training workshop is based on interesting games, exercises and fun activities; not on any lecture (minimal PowerPoint) and is conducted by certified Achievement Motivation trainers who are experienced and have held senior leadership positions in large and reputed corporates of the country. They are able to blend the conceptual understanding of Achievement Motivation to practical application in the corporate environment.

The Three Variants

This training workshop can be delivered in three variant ways addressing the different audience.

  1. Raise the BAR (Bias for Action and Results). This training workshop is for top leaders where Achievement Motivation is pitched into Extension Motivation. The sense of achievement of these leaders is derived from the achievement of juniors, student, associate, team members to whom they have extended this motivation.
  1. Execution Excellence (Lakshya): This training workshop for middle-level leaders offers a comprehensive, disciplined process model for making the strategy work in the real world. Drawing on the substantial combined organisational and consulting experience of the senior consultants, this workshop shows why execution is even more important than many senior executives realise, and sheds the powerful light on why businesses fail to deliver on even their most promising strategies. It aims to identify the possible reasons – in attitude and process detailing for the dilution in implementation as leaders. Understand the ‘Friction’ – causes of dilutions and ‘Focus’ enablers for strategy implementation and learn how to overcome the ‘friction’ and support the ‘focus.’
  1. Convince for Success: This training workshop for Junior managers besides addressing Execution Excellence also focuses on ‘Lack of Confidence’ and ‘BARE Cycle’. By focusing on Power of Belief, on changing the inner attitude of their minds, one can change the outer aspects of their lives! Leveraging the organisation, superiors or colleagues to make life meaningful and effective, leading and mastering self-helps to focus on how one can change one’s life for the better. Everyone can be a self-leader.
